A bright and busy weekend of hockey brought goals, grit, and some outstanding performances across the club. From dominant displays to hard‑earned points and everything in between, our teams once again showed the spirit, determination and togetherness that define Eirias. Here’s how each squad got on...

Women’s 1 – 5★ Performance on the Road

A rare sunny Saturday greeted the Women’s 1s as they squeezed into Crewe’s compact away changing room, but the mood was high from the start — helped by Steph’s improvised turn‑and‑burn netball warm‑up, complete with Nells’ standout defending.

Despite a delayed start, Eirias began with intent. Slick play across the pitch saw them take a deserved 2–0 lead into half‑time. The second half mirrored the first: the back line calm and disciplined, the midfield fluid and intelligent in their movement, and the forwards relentless in creating chaos in the D. A clinical team performance earned a superb 5–0 win.

The Women’s 2s followed the Men’s 1s' example with an excellent victory over Sefton. A bright start saw Benny drive down the line to set up Cath for the opener before weaving through the baseline herself to make it 2–0 inside eight minutes.

Sefton fought back, but strong defensive work from the back six — supported by industrious midfield play — held firm. A sharp penalty‑corner move made it 3–1 at half‑time. The second half was tighter, but a brilliant through‑ball for Charlotte sealed a deserved 4–2 win.

Women’s 3 – A Proud Performance From the Development Squad

With last‑minute dropouts, the Devs fielded a full under‑16 side — and produced arguably their best first half of the season. Communication was excellent, passing crisp, and their confidence shone as they worked the ball around a physical Denbigh side.

A wonderful team goal finished by Eryn capped a superb phase of hockey. Fatigue eventually crept in and Denbigh capitalised, but the quality and togetherness of the squad drew praise from neutral spectators. Holly, the youngest on the pitch, delivered an outstanding all‑round display.

In a match report almost as chaotic as the game itself, Eirias started brilliantly with flowing, tiki‑taka hockey before Fletcher smashed in the opener. Two unclear (and unremembered!) Sefton goals turned the tide, but a pair of trademark Bryn drag‑flicks powered Eirias ahead again.

Late drama saw a Liverpool penalty flick blasted miles wide, prompting jubilation from the travelling support. Despite a scrappy second half, Eirias held on for a memorable 3–2 win.

A commanding performance saw the Men’s 2s claim a convincing win. Teddy opened with a superb reverse finish, and although a defensive slip let West Derby level, Eirias quickly regained control.

Max’s sharp deflection restored the lead before half‑time. In the second half, Teddy struck an unstoppable reverse into the top corner, followed by goals from Rob and Tommy to seal a confident 5–1 victory.

Men’s 3 – Scoreline Doesn’t Tell the Story

The Men’s 3s produced a brave and disciplined performance in a match far closer than the final score suggests. Chester took their chances early, but Eirias controlled long spells of possession with improving passing play and strong movement.

Defensively, the back line was excellent, and Rob delivered multiple top‑class saves. Midfield energy from Finn, Dom and Ryan kept Eirias pushing forward, and the forwards created chances that will soon translate into goals. A flurry of cards late on showed the intensity of the battle.

A strong, encouraging display heading into next week.

Men’s 4 – A Point That Felt Like a Win

Fresh off their best performance of the season, the Men’s 4s delivered another outstanding display. High energy, smart rotations and excellent structure saw Eirias dominate large stretches of the game. Even after going behind against the run of play, the response was immediate — Osian smashing home his first of the season.

Eirias pushed for a winner with chances falling to Johnny and Freddie, but the equaliser stood. The performance, however, felt like victory: disciplined, brave, and built on belief.

Special mention to Leo, who arrived unsure if he even wanted to play — then produced four or five huge saves that kept the team alive.

Match Reports 28th February 2026

It was another action‑packed weekend for Clwb Hoci Eirias, with teams across the club delivering committed, spirited and skilful performances. From hard‑fought battles to high‑scoring displays, the weekend showcased teamwork, resilience and real progress across the board. Here’s how each side got on.

Dry conditions set the stage for a competitive encounter, with Oxton starting strongly and applying early pressure. The first half finished 1–1 thanks to a composed top‑corner finish from Lily, matching Oxton’s opener. The second half saw Eirias step up a gear, with goals from debutant Sophie Morris and Nel securing the win. A few cards added drama to the game, but Eirias showed composure, discipline and excellent link‑up play throughout. Effi claimed a deserved Player of the Match after another standout performance.

With both squads impacted by half term and calving season, the game began with borrowed subs and full 70‑minute shifts all round. Eirias adapted brilliantly, using the opportunity to try new positions while still producing a dominant performance. Grace was unstoppable with five goals, supported by strong play from Annie, Violet, Eryn, and others in a display full of creativity and clinical finishing. Denbigh battled gamely and created chances late on, but Caitlin remained composed in goal. A sunny, good‑spirited game and an excellent team performance.

Eirias 1s (3–2) Golborne &amp; Prescot 1s

In a fiery, rain‑soaked reverse fixture, Eirias delivered a disciplined and determined performance in what proved to be a fiercely contested encounter. After a chaotic first half featuring goals, cards and plenty of drama, Bryn brought Eirias level before Max and Lewis added second‑half goals to secure a memorable 3–2 win. The match had everything—from big tackles to big personalities—and the team held their composure when it mattered most.

The Men’s 3s showed real determination against strong opposition, holding Northop Hall at 0–0 for the first 20 minutes thanks to superb defending and excellent saves from Jacob. Despite trailing 3–0 at the break and conceding three more in the second half, the team’s work rate and commitment never dipped. Midfielders Ryan, Mike S, Finn and Alfie were outstanding in their energy and effort, while Ben impressed out wide with clever passing. Thanks also to Morgan and Zach from Development, who stepped up and contributed brilliantly.

After a two‑week break, the 4s produced one of their strongest team performances of the season despite the 3–0 scoreline. A dominant first half saw Eirias win battles across midfield, move the ball with confidence and create promising chances, going into the break at 0–0. The second half followed a similar pattern until Wrexham—fielding six first‑team players—gradually gained the upper hand. Leo was exceptional in goal, making several crucial saves, while Osian worked tirelessly and creatively in midfield. Numerous short‑corner chances came late on, but the breakthrough just wouldn’t fall. A hugely positive display with plenty to build on.

Match Report 21st February 2026

A mixed weekend of results for Clwb Hoci Eirias, with strong performances across the women’s and men’s sections. The club saw everything from battling cup efforts to high‑scoring wins and hard‑fought league encounters, showcasing determination, teamwork and standout individual displays throughout.

Women’s 1
Eirias Women’s 1 exited the Welsh Championship at the quarter-final stage after a committed performance against a powerful Penarth side, falling 5–0 but showing real resilience. Despite early disruption and facing opponents who play two divisions higher, Eirias competed well, defended bravely, and were kept in the game by a superb goalkeeping display from Kiera, deservedly named Player of the Match.

Women’s 3
Eirias Women’s 3 produced an excellent attacking performance to beat Neston Development 5–1. Once settled into new positions, the team dominated, with well‑worked goals from Lexi (2) and a brilliant hat-trick from Annie. Strong midfield play, relentless wing running, and confident finishing made for a convincing win, with only one lapse allowing Neston a consolation.

Men’s 1
Eirias Men’s 1 suffered a narrow 3–2 defeat away to City of Manchester after a bright start that saw goals from Jon Davies and Bryn Williams. Despite controlling large spells and showing real intensity early on, pressure from repeated short corners turned the game. A late strike sealed the loss, but there were positives throughout, with Cian Owen named Man of the Match for an outstanding display.

Men’s 2
A superb all‑round team performance saw Eirias Men’s 2 secure a 4–0 win over St Helen’s Men’s 1, moving them up to second in the table. With only one substitute and several players carrying knocks, game management and possession were key. Strong midfield control, solid defending and well‑executed attacking play delivered a deserved result, with goals from Max, Brett and Teddy.

Men’s 3
Eirias Men’s 3 battled hard in a difficult fixture against high‑flying Wrexham, eventually falling 5–1. Despite heavy pressure, the team defended bravely, with goal‑line clearances, strong saves and real effort throughout. A penalty flick and second‑half indiscipline cost Eirias, but a well‑taken short‑corner goal from Tom S and standout work from Simon Otto provided bright moments.

Match Report 14th February 2026

The latest round of fixtures saw Clwb Hoci Eirias teams in action across the region, delivering a week packed with excitement, determination, and standout moments. With players braving tough conditions and challenging opponents, every squad showcased their commitment and club spirit—setting the tone for another memorable chapter in the season.

Clwb Hoci Eirias women’s teams enjoyed a week of high-energy hockey, with strong performances across all squads. From comeback wins to narrow defeats, the teams showed resilience, teamwork, and plenty of attacking flair.

Women’s 1st XI:
The 1s had a busy week, starting with a confident 3–1 away win at Didsbury Northern. Despite a reduced squad and a short warm-up, Eirias clicked early, with Effi, Tam, and Libby all finding the net and the defence holding firm under late pressure. Earlier in the week, they braved freezing conditions to beat Wrexham 4–0 at home, with Lily Copeland scoring twice and Martha Hughes starring at the back for a well-earned clean sheet.

Women’s 2nd XI:
The 2s staged a thrilling comeback at home against Golbourn &amp; Prescot, overturning a two-goal deficit to win 4–2. Caz’s quick double sparked the turnaround, with Charlotte and Cath adding late goals as Eirias dominated the closing stages.

Women’s 3rd XI:
The 3s suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Wrexham 2s in a match dominated by Eirias pressure, especially in the second half. Despite relentless attacking and a disallowed goal, Wrexham’s keeper proved unbeatable, but Violet’s all-action display at wing back was a highlight.

It was a week of mixed fortunes for the men’s teams, with hard-fought draws, narrow defeats, and spirited performances throughout the club. The squads showed determination and teamwork, with several young players stepping up and making an impact.

Men’s 1st XI:
The 1s battled to a dramatic 3–3 draw away at Urmston, leading three times through goals from Bryn, Calum, and Ashley before conceding a last-minute equaliser. Back at home, they fell 2–1 to Neston 2s, with Jon Davies scoring late on but Eirias unable to find an equaliser despite a spirited finish.

Men’s 3rd XI:
The 3s faced a tough test away at Neston 5s, eventually losing 9–0, but showed good energy and organisation in the first half. Dom and Ryan worked tirelessly in midfield, and the defensive unit made key interventions, with the team’s effort and spirit clear positives to build on.

Men’s Development:
The Development squad put in one of their most assured performances of the season, dominating possession and creating chances but ultimately losing 3–2 to Wrexham. Goals from Tom and Harrison put Eirias ahead twice, and although two late Wrexham strikes turned the game, the team’s confidence and structure continue to improve.

Match Report 31st January 2026

A strong weekend across all three women’s sides saw Clwb Hoci Eirias take three well‑earned victories, each showcasing development, resilience and real squad depth.

The Women’s 1st XI returned home with purpose, producing a composed 4–1 win over Oldham. Early control set the tone, with goals from Effi and Charlotte before the break, followed by Fleur’s confidently struck penalty flick and Steph’s rapid reply to Oldham’s consolation. It was a performance built on structure, work rate and midfield dominance, epitomised by Ali’s superb Player of the Match display.

On the road, the Women’s 2nd XI delivered a disciplined, hard‑earned 2–0 win at Northop Hall. Ella’s stunning reverse strike opened the scoring before Benny doubled the lead, while impressive defensive organisation and strong goalkeeping ensured Eirias stayed in control throughout. Their patience, energy and commitment ensured a deserved three points.

The Women’s 3rd XI rounded off the trio of wins with a mature and confident 1–0 victory over Northop Hall Development. Violet’s well‑taken finish inside 15 minutes proved decisive in a match dominated by Eirias’ possession and attacking intent. The team’s structure and calmness — led by standout performer Hollie Hogan — showed clear progression and growing confidence across the squad.

A mixed weekend for the Eirias men’s sides brought one strong win, a narrow defeat, and a performance full of learning and character from the Development team.

The Men’s 2nd XI produced a well‑managed 2–0 victory over Bangor City, built on organisation, clever passing and two clinically taken goals. Rob’s superb reverse‑stick effort and Max’s composed finish gave Eirias a platform they never looked likely to relinquish. A commanding performance from goalkeeper Finn — named MOTM — and disciplined defending ensured a confident, controlled win.

The Men’s 3rd XI delivered plenty of quality despite a frustrating 4–3 loss to Oxton. Early goals from Jacob, Finn and Alfie put Eirias in a strong position, but a late first‑half concession shifted momentum. Despite battling hard and pushing for a late equaliser, the side fell just short. The performance, however, showed creativity, energy and growing maturity — offering real positives for the weeks ahead.

The Men’s Development Team faced a tough test in a 7–1 defeat away at Chester but demonstrated huge second‑half improvement. After a difficult opening period, the team responded superbly, pressing higher, breaking up play more effectively, and scoring a brilliantly constructed goal finished by Zach. Their work rate, structure and confidence after the break highlighted encouraging progress across the group.
